Hector Tobar teaches with me in the Literary Journalism Program at UC Irvine and I love that he wrote his beautiful book as a letter to students. He is in excellent company with the other books you read in June--and thanks also for reading the QA with Sheon.
In grade 8, when Mr Stern to be whom I’m eternally grateful to told us to not to trust what’s written in our world history textbooks because history is recorded by the winners…these words alway remained with me… you need as much information as possible, from as many perspectives as possible and then process it as critically as you can… hopefully results in a glimpse of enlightenment
he is adorable !! were there any particular elements you liked about giovannis room, and have you read any of baldwin’s other fiction? been thinking about which to start next
I just thought Giovanni was a beautifully created character, so charismatic and full of life. I read Another Country a while ago and it’s really wrenchingly sad, but also excellent
